With high school diplomas in hand, 20 Menlo School student-athletes are set to continue their athletic and academic careers in college, representing 18 colleges and universities. They are set to compete in 13 sports at schools across the nation from California to Texas to New Jersey to Massachusetts.
These students - many multi-sport -athletes - paced the Knights to NorCal, CCS and League Championships, and a CCS Scholastic Team Championship. They not only showed exceptional skill and hard work on the playing field, but also demonstrated excellence in the classroom.
Five players who led Menlo football to the section semifinals, a 10-2 record, and a perfect 5-0 mark in league en route to a championship, are headed to play in college. League Player of the Year quarterback/safety Mikey McGrath, who was also the starting center fielder for the NorCal finalist Menlo baseball, is headed to Williams for football. Receiver and defensive back Brady Jung, a midfielder in lacrosse, joins USC football in its first year in the Big Ten, and running back Willis Johnson, who also ran track and played basketball, is bound for Puget Sound.
Bradford Tudor, co-defensive lineman of the year for PAL-Ocean football, is set to play lacrosse at Middlebury.
Andre Gonzalez Lombera, a first team, all-league kicker in his rookie football season and as a midfielder, and two-time league midfielder of the year Alessandro Velazquez, who had 21 goals his senior year, are headed to DeAnza College soccer. As seniors, the duo led Menlo to a WBAL title and a CCS Championship appearance.
Fresh off the track & field season in which she placed second in state in the high jump with a league record height of 5 feet, 8 inches and was named league MVP, Summer Young is headed to Brigham Young. A multi-sport athlete, Young helped flag football to a 15-1 inaugural season and was a four-year basketball player for the Knights, who won three CCS championships in a row. She also qualified for CCS in the long jump and the 4x100. Claude Kingsley-Williams, who also played basketball, had a breakout season in track & field, is headed to UC-Merced. He qualified for CCS in the triple jump and 4x100, taking silver and bronze respectively at the league meet.
Evan Burnett, a two-time high school All-American in tennis, who led his Menlo teams to two NorCal and two CCS championships, and three league titles in his three seasons. He graduated early and joined Texas for the spring season.
Two swimmers who have taken the league by storm in three seasons after their freshman seasons were canceled. Connor Grant, who won all 10 of his WBAL regular-season races and made CCS cuts in six events and two relays, then made the CCS Championship A final in the 200 freestyle. He is headed to Occidental. First-team all-league pick Sage Huddleston, who advanced to CCS Finals in both the 200 and 500 freestyle, 200 and 400 free relay, is headed to Middlebury.
On the heels of the CCS Championships in which he took eighth, two-time league Player of the Year Eric Yun is headed to Princeton. Yun, who also recorded a 7-under 30 at Baylands GL this season and was medalist in nearly every match for the Knights this season, will join brother Jeremy ’21 to play for the Tigers. Joelle Kim, a first team, all-league selection and CCS qualifier every season, finished top 18 among the 100-plus-player fields as a junior and senior. Kim, who also returned to the lacrosse field this season, is bound for Amherst for golf.
A quartet of players, who led Menlo volleyball to a WBAL championship, a return to the CCS Open Division playoffs, and successful pursuit of a CIF-NorCal Tournament bid this season, plan to continue their careers in college. Cleo Hardin, a first team, all league pick at outside hitter, is headed to Northwestern, all-league selection at middle and opposite hitter Bella Chen is set to play at Colorado College, opposite hitter Aaliyah Sanders is headed to Chapman and middle Logan Wilson is bound for Wellesley.
Headed to UCLA, Cassidy has paced the Knights to top-tier CCS Open berths all three years the postseason has been held. The utility player was the Knights’ leading scorer this season, and is a three-time all-West Catholic Athletic League selection. She also swam each year for Menlo, qualifying for CCS in the free relay. Cormac Mulloy, a three-time all-league pick, mans the goal for Menlo, which has made the CCS open every year. Mulloy is headed to continue his academic and athletic career at Stanford in 2025.
Sam Warman, who was a captain and three-year member of the Knights swim team winning an event gold in league and qualifying for CCS, will row for MIT in the fall.
