THE CLEBURNE PASTORS
ENDORSE POINDEXTER
Possibly no candidate who has
ever run for governor of Texas
more richly deserved the endorse
ment of the local pastors of his
home town than Judge Poindex
ter. He is a Presbyterian End it
is said that throughout the thirty
years of his membership he has
never missed the regular preach
ing services without a valid reas
on. Therefore it was a pleasure
to all the Cleburne pastors to
sign the document below.
Cleburne. Tex., Feb. 1. —A
special meeting of the Pastors
Association of Cleburne was helc
this morning in the study of the
First Methodist Church for the
purpose of adopting resolutions
of confidence and esteem in
Judge Poindexter and giving
him hearty indorsem*nt to the
people of Texas in connection
with his candidacy for the Dem-
ocratic nomination for Governor.
The following resolutions were
unanimously adopted:
‘To the people of Texas:
‘Whereas, Judge W. Poindex
ter has lived among us for thirty
years and has won the esteem of
lis fellow citizens by the moral
integrity of his character.
Whereas, he has always been
a steadfast and a consistent sup-
porter of the prohibition cause,
:’or which Christianity in general
stands.
Wnereas, he is a man of rec-
ognized judicial ability and em-
inently qualified for the great
office to which he aspires.
Resolved, that we, the pas-
:ors of Cleburne, in conference
assembled, hereby express our
confidence in him and wish him
success in his efforts to secure
the Gubernatorial honors.”

Dr. Felix Adler, a lecturer
and an author of some note, says
“the pulpit is obsolete,” and that
“the failing church attendance
testifies to its failure.” No such
testimony will be gleaned from
any pulpit that is being filled by
a God called preacher, as He fur-
nishes all such with a power to
so present the 'story that never
grows old that Bnen will come

ing his four years in that position j
the question of creating the offi-
ce of School Superintendent came
up and he vigirously opposed the
measure as he did not think it!
should be done by action of the
court. Mr. Herring was also no-!
ted for his precautionary manner
of making appropriations or ex-1
(jenditures of any kind, until
thoroughly convinced the county
w'ould get value received. He
moved to this city two years ago1
for the benefit of the schools. 1
