GREEN JUICE RECIPE

This green juice recipe is a great source of fiber, protein, potassium, magnesium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, probiotics, and antioxidants.

While we aren’t vegan or vegetarian we have watched the documentaries Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and Hungry for Change. If you haven’t watched them yet, they will really open your eyes to how unhealthy our typical American diet really is and how the food industry disguises the true nutritional information of its products.

We have been making this juice recipe 2-3 times per week for over 8 years now. It’s a great way for us to get our vegetables in. Yes, we do add an entire container of organic spinach (1 lb container!). We get our spinach from Costco!

BENEFITS OF THIS GREEN JUICE RECIPE

A couple of things we didn’t like about most juice recipes we saw were the lack of protein and the overuse of fruits to cancel out the bitter taste of the vegetables. Moreover, most of the recipes we saw did not add in any spices to enhance the flavor of the juice and incorporate their health-boosting effects. So, we decided to make our own recipe by adding in ginger, turmeric, and superfood powder all while cutting out the fructose. Needless to say, this juice offers a powerhouse of green, ph-balancing ingredients with tons of fiber and plenty of protein to help you feel full, build muscle, and burn fat.

HOW DO I MAKE THIS WITH NO JUICER?

We make our juice in our Vitamix instead of using a juicer. We were very skeptical at first about spending that much on a blender, but we use it multiple times every day and it’s very versatile! We’ve had our Vitamix for almost 10 years now!

All we have to do is throw everything in the blender and turn it on… we don’t have to cut things into smaller pieces as we did with our Ninja. It’s self-cleaning and comes with a 7-year warranty, so all things considered, it’s definitely worth it. Within the first year, we got our money’s worth out of it (and that’s tough for me to say since I’d consider myself pretty frugal)!

Ingredients

Scale

Instructions

  1. Peel lemons and to the Vitamix
  2. Add all other ingredients except for spinach and Apple Cider Vinegar
  3. Turn Vitamix on variable power, speed 1, and gradually increase until all ingredients are blended. Add spinach. If you are using the entire container (like we do) you will really have to stuff this in there! Add more water as needed.
  4. Once spinach and all other ingredients are blended, add the Apple Cider Vinegar. Then, turn Vitamix on high power and let juice for 30-60 seconds until mixture is in juice consistency.

Notes

  • We typically add all ingredients except for spinach and ACV and then fill up the container (ours is 64 oz) halfway with water.
  • It will take some practice to get the entire spinach container in the Vitamix. You might want to start adding just half a container until you make this a few times and get the consistency down that you want.
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Category: Beverage
  • Method: Blended
