It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and the theme this year is 'Moving more for our mental health’. It was a sunny day (yesterday!) so a group of us decided to do just that and move more - round Southampton Common to be exact. Accompanied by quite a few canine friends, we took in the beautiful green scenery and listened to the birds singing. I for one, certainly felt great for the fresh air and the cakes when we returned were a welcome sight! Have you moved more this week? Have you felt the benefits? A walk certainly is a great way to clear your head. Here are some tips from Mental Health Foundation on how to boost your mental health by moving more: https://lnkd.in/e-mZGEaU

Sofar so good 🎸We were delighted recently to have hosted our second Sofar (Songs from a room) gig at Design Chapel Southampton. We had some superb acts for the sold out evening: Firewoodisland, a mountain pop duo from Bristol (via Norway & Wales) https://lnkd.in/eR4yfbEb, singer songwriter and all round lovely fella Olly Hite https://lnkd.in/ePbjkP-U and Gecko, a brilliant singer storyteller from London https://lnkd.in/eeG-FuHx. All faultlessly organised by the Sofar Sounds Southampton team, just so professional and lovely with it.We are a cowork by day but increasingly are putting on events, evenings and weekends - it's so great to have people in and enjoying the space at times where we used to just stand empty. As well as music related events we have also hosted several creative gatherings and workshops recently, along with business events and committee meetings. We welcome new enquiries, please do get in touch if you are looking for a unique and inspiring space. Also, worth noting is that we adopt a ‘gift economy approach’ when it comes to hiring the space - if our rate card isn’t going to work for you then we are happy discuss what will, to make it work for everyone involved. On Saturday the 25th November we are hosting a live music fund raiser evening for our friends at the Platform Tavern, a fantastic Southampton venue that are sadly closed due to a fire recently. We, along with the rest of the Southampton music community, are really keen to help out and get them back open again. We have Daddy Witch, The Slack 5 & Pegasuses generously performing on the night. Please do come along and support...Eventbrite Tickets: https://shorturl.at/kFHIJPictured is the recent Sofar, and some previous events and pics to give a flavour of a musical evening with us 🎸#letthemusicplay #southampton #musicevents #sofar #livemusic

We are delighted to be sponsoring and helping out the Music in The City event here this weekend in Southampton. We have created all the graphics… the posters, the map and listings the sail flags that you’ll see out on the pavements on the day, all professionally crafted by one of the Design Chapel's top resident creatives David BirchNow in its 14th year, MUSIC IN THE CITY celebrates the wonderful diversity of musical talent in and around Southampton. From Rock to Jazz, Folk to Acoustic, Country to Punk, Indie to Blues, Classical to Americana… Youngsters to Pensioners, Grassroots to Pro's, in some of the best and unusual settings the city has to offer, 28 of them in total with other 100 performances scheduled. We were going to add ourselves as a venue, with some excellent musician friends lined up but we couldn’t make the date work this year, we will next :) We have hosted several intimate gigs now in the Design Chapel, and are keen to become a bigger part of the local music and arts scene, to compliment our cowork by day, which is largely made up of creative individuals and businesses. Please do get in touch with any ideas you have on events we could host with you, or if you are interested in trialling our unique coworking space.Big shout out to the marvellous Martin Perry (Harmonica Guy) who makes this whole thing happen, its a huge undertaking, and he's done it yet again!MUSIC IN THE CITY is such a great thing for Southampton, lets all get out and embrace it!#southamptonevents #musicevents #southamptonmusicscene #musicinthecity

A year in the life of... Events at the Design Chapel. Well, here we are, almost 18 months on from when we opened our (locally) well known doors to the community, with open hearts & minds. We had no idea we would entertain so many different uses for this wonderful space in a 175 year old chapel, and create so much joy & success 😊.Events have included: staff training, trustee away days, charity committee meetings, wine & cheese tastings, photography workshops, afternoon teas, trading card events, craft fairs, clothes swaps, lino print days, wreath workshops, drawing classes, AGM’s, book launches, live music, poetry evenings, quiz nights, movie screenings, ideation sessions & focus groups, networking events, yoga classes and a Sofar gig. Phew.Thank you to everyone who has supported us by entrusting us with their events, please do keep them coming and spread theDesign Chapel word 😊👏 #southamptonevents#southamptonvenue#southampton #eventspace#convertedchapel
